License Compliance
In 2000, piracy cost the software industry an estimated twelve billion dollars. To combat this, the major software companies pool their anti-piracy resource via an organization called Business Software Alliance (BSA). The BSAšs main function is to ensure that a company is abiding by the licenses of the software packages that are installed on the companyšs machines. Most often, a company falls out of compliance because of the difficulty in maintaining an active log of what software is installed on what machines, as opposed to malicious piracy.
There are a number of reasons why the BSA may target your company. When they do, however, the result is often hundreds of hours of lost time and tens of thousands of dollars in fines and lost opportunity costs. Short of a drawn out legal battle, the easiest way to deal with the BSA is to be prepared and organized.
ShadowLight Technologies can perform a software audit and prepare a report of what software is installed, how many licenses are available, and can call attention to any areas where your company falls out of compliance. By initiating a self-audit, employee interruption can be limited, ensuring little loss in productivity and work time.
Once the initial report is generated, we can provide a process to easily update this database as more software is acquired, enabling a method to easily show what software your company is using. In the event that your compliance is called into question, your company can quickly and definitively respond.
